Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europa, an international racing platform on the tracks that have made motoring history like Monza, Nürburgring and Spa Francorchamps, will begin on the French Dijon track on 12 May.
The continental calendar includes three events that are also valid for Trofeo Abarth Selenia Italia: Redbull Ring in Austria, Varano and Monza. It is completed with races in Dijon (12 May), Nürburgring (2 June) and Spa-Francorchamps (8 September).
Every event includes two 25-minute races plus one lap and the relevant 40-minute qualifier round.
A total of 2,000 kilometres of track, starring the Abarth 695 Assetto Corse and Abarth 500 Assetto Corse. Thanks to their low running costs and outstanding competitiveness and reliability, these cars have so far enabled a whole array of drivers to make their racing débuts and drive in the limelight. This year the entrants to Make It Your Race, the talent show Abarth presented in a world premiere last season, will be amongst them. In 2012 Abarth made the dream of these aspiring drivers (30,000 candidates and 106 selected) who challenged each other to take to the track in professional racing, come true. The six finalists, from six different European countries, competed against each other in the final race at Franciacorta.
Now their showing will have a follow-up since in 2013, Abarth decided to treat the six talent show finalists of the 2012 edition from the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, Benelux and Italy, to a real professional driving season in the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Benelux. These young people will compete on five prestigious European tracks, including Nürburgring and Spa, to win the special “Trofeo Make It Your Race” title.
The best of the group will be given an award at the end of each racing week-end and the special classification will be updated. It will be a genuine challenge within the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Benelux. The former stars of the 2012 talent show will also vie for the end of leg awards and championship against all the other pro drivers entered.
Make It Your Race is not just racing. It is also a show and the story of the excitement and passion of young people who pursue their dream. For this reason, as each of the race week-ends approaches, the young drivers will talk about the free trials, qualifications and races live , which the public can follow on the official Abarth racing blog http://teamabarth.tumblr.com/ as well as directly on Twitter and Instagram with these hashtags: #topdrivers #miyr #abarth
The initiative is being presented this week-end in Dijon at the opening race of the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europa with a challenge between Make It Your Race spokespersons Arturo Merzario, Margot Lafitte, Tiffany Chittendale, Christian Menzel and Yoshiki Ohmura.
Selections for the 2013 edition of the reality show were opened and 8,500 candidates from ten European countries are already competing on the web to grab the attention of the programme’s panel of judges. One new development this year is that Michelin, already technical partner for the past Trofeo races, will now also be the official Make It Your Race tyre supplier.
The 2013 edition of Make It Your Race will be a ‘scripted reality show’ whose stars will be non-professional drivers from ten European countries. To take part in the on-line selections, just go to the website www.makeityourrace.it. Those selected will participate in the camp, where they will experience the trials, excitement, joy and pain of the tough path they have to take to become a driver in front of the cameras. Only the best will reach the final race at the Monza track.
The talent show will be broadcast in the autumn on the TV channel D-Max.
